Press fit gear for the most reliable setup
Eliminate the concern of shearing your 1.8T timing drive gear keyway once-and-for-all with this billet replacement. The factory gears are notorious for coming loose in high RPM conditions, leading to the keyways completely breaking, causing timing belt failure. Along with that, we have seen failures from the powdered metal gears completely disintegrating from small cracks that develop as the bolt is torqued. As a result from these failures, valves bend and pistons become damaged. We offer dowel pin gear kits and ARP crank bolts to help this situation. We knew that there was a better solution for that problem; it would just take some serious work and testing to bring it to the market. With this product, we have completely redesigned the factory interface, removing the weak factory gear and loose-fitting keyway, replacing it with a solid steel gear with a press-fit interface.
Our gears are machined from a billet high grade piece of tool steel, they are much stronger than the OEM material for ultimate durability and then hardened post machining. The gear itself has a more precision machined keyway to locate it more positively, as well as having over twice the cross sectional area around the crank shaft compared to the OEM and others, this bore on the pulley is machined to be an interference fit to the crankshaft to give it the upmost purchase and retention strength.
We also supply the gear pre drilled ready for the end user to dowel pin it to their existing crank shaft. This combined with the ARP crank bolt is what we use on our own engines, these have remained secure revving in excess of 10500rpm. Choice of the 4 bolt 1.8t or 6 bolt TFSI billet pulley. The 6 bolt gear can also be used and fitted to the 1.8t as an upgrade with the additional clamp load for the aux pulley
